 | In April 2000, BacTech signed a licensing agreement with the Laizhou Gold Metallurgy Plant (subsequently renamed "Tarzan Biogold") of Shandong Province in the People's Republic of China. BacTech built a bioleach plant that was designed to treat multiple sources of concentrate, as its primary focus was to operate as a toll treatment facility. An upfront licensing fee and a production royalty were paid to BacTech by Biogold.
In September 2001, the plant was officially commissioned, with the initial output in excess of 65,000 ounces of gold per annum and recoveries exceeding 97%. Since that time, production has increased to 75,000 oz/pa. Later this year, will see the opening of a plant expansion that will move total capacity to 150,000 ounces of gold per annum.
Today, the Biogold plant treats concentrates from many different mines, some as far away as Greece. As a result of a corporate takeover, the plant is now owned by Australian-based miner, Sino Gold Corp.
